A "league source" informs the PFT guys that TJ Duckett has been released and was informed of the decision on Monday night.
This ends my speculation re: Julius Jones trade, but probably speaks strongly that Jones is healthy, as they could have easily cut a scrub to make a roster spot for Edge.
Duckett was a touchdown machine last year, but that was mainly because that was the role he was put in, and because we had few reliable passing options. He wasn't going to be needed so much in that role this year, so this is a cut that makes a lot of sense.
Still, this offensive line is hopefully not settled, because it does not look very good. We should find out by Thursday whether Vallos or Unger will be the starting Center moving forward. If it is Vallos, I would expect Unger to win out at guard. If not, which is how I'm leaning, it will be Locklear - Sims - Unger - Wrotto - Willis. On a scale of 1-10, that line is a 4. Getting Jones back and sliding Lock to RG gets us to a 6 or 7.
UPDATE: From Softy Mahler's Facebook page:
TJ Duckett is on his way out..I just talked to him and he's pretty bummed out. Said he hasnt heard directly from the Hawks yet but u could hear in his voice he knows he's on his way out.

I am not sold the Edge is the answer but if Knapp & Mora dont want TJ they must know something. Everyone thought TJ was brought in last year for Mora to use this year.
The O-line is a mess. I don't see Ruskel doing any dumb deals and there are not many offensive linemen out there that are any good that teams are willing to trade. I did see Miami sent 2 guys with starting experience to KC but our whole line has starting experience so that doesnt necessarily say much.

I really hope the front office knows what they're doing, but the run game and O-Line are looking SERIOUSLY weak. This move suggests we won't even be able to move the ball in short yardage. Could make for a long, long, long season.

edge was taken out of the line-up part way through last season, and then reinserted for the playoffs and played quite well. he still was running good well after our season was over, so it would stand to reason that he can still play today. the question is how long he can play at a high level, and how much he can contribute to the seahawks this season.
edge signed a one-year deal, so this would probably be his last hurrah with seattle either way. getting a new rb next year would probably make sense.

I just want to apologize for getting into it with a troll last night. It brings down the whole community when you feed into it. That said, I love this move. We are headed in the right direction.

I agree with Matt he held the ball too long on several snaps. He is still getting accustomed to the timing of the new offense. Relax everyone we will be fine on the OL. We've got talent and coaching it will come together.

Don't like that we paid TJ a $2.5 million bonus this offseason.

I watched the first half of the game again last night, and this time around the defense didn't look that bad, and the offensive line didn't look that bad either. Duckett did look indecisive running and chose the wrong holes a couple of times. He just doesn't have the speed/vision to get outside when that is what is blocked.
Protection for Hass wasn't great, but I've seen a lot worse. The key for this year's Hawks will be passing game, and as long as Hass stays healthy, which I think he is likely to do, we'll be competitive. Housh looks awesome. So much confidence just oozing from him. He doesn't take crap from anyone. Between Housh and Carlson, the middle of the field will be tough to defend. Speed guys outside will have opportunities one-on-one.
Deion Branch looks really really small and hard to find. If I'm Hasselbeck I'd rather throw to other guys who seperate and are more findable.

As for TJ, I honestly am a little sad to see him go. He was a good teammate by all accounts and while he wasn't a big gainer nor is a feature back he certainly played his specific role well last year. I hope he can find another team.

Duckett's one-dimensionalism caught up with him. Granted that one dimension was very strong (short-yardage pounder), but like someone above said Duckett on the field allows opposing defenses to completely sell out to an run up the middle. Edge adds a lot of versatility to the offense in the form of a back that the Hawks can confidently count on to pass block, catch the ball consistently, and generally execute all of the technical aspects of the RB position. If Jones was injured and the Hawks had to rest their fate on the shoulders of Duckett and Forsett, they would have seriously limited the flexibility of the run game. This is a nice move by Timmy. Can't wait to see Edge play the Cardinals and Colts.

... no 3rd gear, but hits guys and pushes them back and gets extra yardage, and a QUICK first step and really fast to the hole. In other words, what we need.

plus, there is no part of Edge's game that's not an improvement over Duckett's game...is it a stopgap? You bet it is, but the draft is a ways away...and now I'm seeing the draft go S. LT, RB...(unless Berry's gone, then LT, RB, maybe OG?
