bumpus did pretty well last season, contributing more than some of the players we traded for. maybe they cut him early to give him a chance to catch on somewhere else. i have a suspicion that at least one of our wr castoffs will end up as redskins.

kind of disappointing... he showed some flashes last year, really hoped he would end up on PS for this season....

How many slot men do we have to keep ? So far I guess Butler is just another one.
Last year the staff saw our WR depth in a real-job situation much more that it was expected to. I'm quite confident about the choices that will be made, they have enough material to judge well.

Too bad cause I liked Bumpus, but not a surprise with the depth at WR. My guess is that he finds his way to another team soon. Skins/Rams/Ravens/Broncos (Marshall out and Gaffney out w/ a broken thumb) come to mind. The fact that he plays special teams and returns kicks makes him an asset to several clubs.

For all the people rooting for practice squad... The player must be released first, then clear waivers before they can be added to the practice squad. So releasing him is the first step. Of course, it's a really bad sign to be in the first cut.

Don't be too surprised to see him on our practice squad if he isn't picked up by someone else. He would have to make another roster before he would be unavailable. They might have released him in the first cuts to show other teams he wasn't valuable so they wouldn't pick him up. Most teams are waiting for the final cuts to shop for those last minute bargains. Unless another team has scouted him, no one would know that he was a fairly good prospect.

i think someone like zorn would appreciate someone who played in the wco we were running last year. and yes, i still think he's in the mix for practice squad. it's happened a few times in years past where a player let go ine the first round of cuts was then picked to be on the ps.
(and yes, i've thought of the posturing stanpoint, where the seahawks might be worried about more than a couple of our receivers landing on other rosters fairly quickly. not playing bumpus at all in the third game and then cutting him quickly might be a way of make sure they get at least one of these young guys on the ps..)

Bumpus is a good kid, hope he catches on somewhere. Nice move by the 'Hawks cutting him early so he can start looking.

Hard to believe. The guy almost convinced Holmgren to put him on the active roster game 1 as a rookie last year...and now he's one of the first cuts. Bummer. I think this stinks. Hopefully the Hawks are doing what I have suspected all along--they are hiding him and hoping to stash him on the practice squad this year.
Next year Branch will most likely go back to New England (in my mind anyway), and who knows what happens with Burleson. So that will mean Bumpus will have a better chance next season.
Unless of course the coaches, in thier infinite wisdom, have decided Bumpus cant hack it and dont want anything to do with him. I hope that isnt the case, as I liked him.
I think Taylor has really shown improvement since last year, and am looking forward to seeing him continue his development in regular season games. He has decent speed and good size, which is a rare combo for Seahawk WR's these days!
