I've asked the guys from Football Outsiders for their projections on Edgerrin James, but here's a look at the three backs in question (James, Jones, Duckett) in their career, last year, and the FO projections.

Keep in mind how he was used last season. There was a strech of like 9 games where he was just a backfield blocker. He hardly got the ball, but when they started to give it to him more in the playoffs he started to shine again.

This is a signing I am kind of ho-hum on. Living in the Phoenix area, I saw him locally and heard a lot of coverage on local radio. Always appreciated here and well-respected, but at 31, what can he really offer that makes a huge difference to our running game? He did look okay at the end of the 08' season and in the Tardinals' playoff run, so maybe he feels okay and can use a fresh start and the familiarity with the division to make a decent season out of it. We need to address OT help next and most of all, IMO.
