League sources are saying Walter Jones' situation could be worse than originally thought, according to NFL.com writer Jason La Canfora:

While the Seahawks are talking as if future Hall of Famer Walter Jones could be back in 4-6 weeks, league sources say it could be a much longer, perhaps season-ending situation, given where Jones is at this stage in his career.

We're not sure how much stock to put into this statement, as it remains fairly unconfirmed so far. But we do know Jones' injury is nothing to shrug off, and it's an added blow to an offensive line that's already beginning to appear frighteningly short on depth. That much we can worry about.

Veteran tackles Mark Tauscher and Levi Jones still remain available. Seahawk personnel had been reportedly talking to Levi Jones earlier in the offseason, but nothing seemed to come of the discussions. On the optimistic side of things, maybe the reason Levi hasn't been picked up by anyone else yet is because a good-faith agreement was reached with the Hawks. The worst-case scenario for Levi is that his past behavior and attitude problems make him about as unappealing as a hissing cobra to the rest of the league, which would probably cross him off the list of potential "Ruskell guys."

Tauscher is coming off surgery, but has been cleared to play. He's had a number of quality years protecting Brett Favre with the Packers, and would unquestionably make sense to bring in for a workout. Other teams would probably bite on Tauscher much faster than any other free agent tackle out there right now, and the Hawks' front office must make a move quickly with Big Walt's status uncertain at best; grim at worst.

The team can't sound desperate

John Runyon has also been medically cleared to play...but I wonder, what are these "league sources"? How close are they to the Jones situation? Or they just looking at and saying: "well, he's old, and this is a second surgery in less than a year, therefore, he's done.." Scopes are, as Hass said, a pretty regular thing, and if they are successful, don't keep the player out long...It's more likely that this was a "tune up" on the knee than a last gasp attempt to make it work, form everything reputable that I've read...we'll know in six weeks...in the meanwhile, it's not as if starting quality LT's are sitting around waiting for teams to give them a job...

I agree. Not that I'm optimistic that Jones will make much of an impact this year, but I think this "source" is trying harder to create a story than he is trying to truly discover the state of Jones' recovery. But unfortunately, Gnarly is also right that Ruskell always likes to keep a poker face, and if we truly are in the market for a LT, we won't know until one is signed.
If TR is tweaking the RB corp, you can rest assure he's even more concerned about the O-line.
